-- We the parents of the United States Foundation of our United States of America Christian Principles, Basis of Freedom Article by Guy M Oddo, July 29, 2002 The sanctity of the home and family is vital to the establishment of social morals that hold the fabric of this nation together. Without them our families break apart, and our children grow to believe that nothing is secure or stable. If the home is not maintained then everything becomes devalued and our children, and our children's children become more and more desensitized and selfish, destroying the lives around them and eventually their own. This country, our United States of America, was established and fought for in order to protect the freedom of our families to live securely and without the intrusion of abusive kings, governments, and religious persecution. These forces have proven over and over again that governments should refrain from reaching into the homes and families of its citizens. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America put their Principles over Politics. And contrary to today, their political activity was a product of their convictions. The Constitutional Republic they set up was based upon Christian Principles, and could only come about and could only be maintained by people who put Christian Moral Principles over all other concerns. Patrick Henry confirms this: "It cannot be emphasized to strongly or to often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but Christians, not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ! " The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was written to protect that effort from the governments heavy hand, which is quite evident by the intrusion of the government in today's current culture. In today's "politics", many openly advocate ungodly principles. Many say that they hold to the Christian principles of our Founding Fathers, but act and vote as if they don't, putting Special Interest Groups and their agendas, over the Christian Principals they portend to abide by. Did you know that Government officials, throughout the years, with the most spectacular record of achievement, were deeply committed to God and Country, with emphasis on their religious observance towards their Creator. Virtually all of the great leaders of this country, without exception, were vocally religious. George Washington, in his address to the Delaware chiefs on May 12th, 1797, stated : " it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and to humbly implore his protection and favor." He attended church services weekly, supported a state-sponsored religious establishment in his native Virginia, and formulated the addition to the presidential oath, "So help me God." In 1798, President John Adams states, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other". Which is why today (in 2002) our Constitution is basically a non-entity. In 1821, John Quincy Adams declared, "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." The writer of the final draft of the Constitution, Governor Morris stated, "Religion is the only solid basis of good morals; therefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man toward God." Today state education does teach the precepts of religion, but it's the religion of secular humanism that puts man in the place of God; it also teaches the duty of man not toward God but towards the socialist state. In 1854, Congress passed a resolution declaring: "The great and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and divine truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ." It is quite striking that those, in the "Children's Services" leap if not run to the evil of denying the Fundamental Right to Life and Liberty (Freedom) of Innocent Children and their Parents who are more often accused of false allegations; and Loving, Caring Parents have their Children Ripped from them, and both children and their parents, but mostly the Children, suffer Mental, Emotional and in many cases Physical Abuse, at the Hands of those Power Hungry Control Freaks known as Social Wreckers. But lets get back to the fine upstanding persons of this Country that had much higher Qualities of Integrity and Morals, which many of today, who are in prominent positions, seem to have a lack of. John Jay, the first chief justice of the Supreme Court, headed the American Bible Society, and James Madison, father of the Constitution echoed Washington and Jefferson in proclaiming : "God is essential to the moral order and happiness of man." And what is the response to the lack of moral order? Well there seems to be a lot less happiness with the escalation of Power and Greed coupled with more and more intrusions of government "Programs." John Adams, the second President, held that the notion of equality and the foundation of which this Nation was built, was based upon the knowledge of God and that this is what children should be taught: "Let them revere God, religion, morality, and liberty." Samuel Adams, delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress, pressed for public prayer. And a few years later, Benjamin Franklin went on to propose that each session of the Constitutional Convention be opened with an invocation to the Almighty God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 52 of the 55 delegates were practicing Christians. Also, Franklin, the inventor of the lightning rod and sophisticate par excellence, nonetheless regarded the Bible as "The most faithful of all histories." Abraham Lincoln, the son of a church Deacon and an avid reader of the Bible, wrote, "I can see how a man can look down into the mud and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God." There are other examples in the present (though they are very few), so I will give the best. When John Paul II welcomed the new U.S. ambassador to the Vatican on Sept.13, 2002, he said the following: "Mr. Ambassador, the vision and the moral strength that America is being challenged to exercise in a rapidly changing world, call for an acknowledgement of the crisis Americans are experiencing, which is a crisis characterized by the advance of a materialistic, utilitarian and ultimately dehumanized worldview that is tragically detached from its moral foundations. In order to survive and prosper, its accompanying economic and political structures must be directed by a vision whose core is God, and the inalienable rights of every human being, from the moment of ones conception to the moment of ones natural death. When some lives, especially those of the child, are subjected to the personal choices of others, no other value or right will long be guaranteed, and society will inevitably be governed by the special interest groups, merely for convenience. Freedom cannot be sustained in a cultural climate that measures human dignity in utilitarian terms (What's in it for me?). Never has it been more urgent to reinvigorate the moral vision that is essential to maintaining a free society." The fact is many in our nation have become self indulgent and indifferent to others. These same ones are slaves of pleasure and addiction, and addiction comes in several forms, and takes away ones ability for clear moral judgment. Many of those self-seeking persons who have more than necessary resources fail to use those resources for God and Country. It is correct to rejoice in freedom; but liberty without responsibility, or accountability, results in Anarchy. A few years ago a church leader from an eastern European nation, was taken up in a plane to view the Statue of Liberty. When the pilot asked him what he thought of the statue, he replied, "That's wonderful. But do you have a statue of Responsibility on the west coast?" "Land of the Free" and "Home of the Brave" have almost completely been reduced to "residence of the disadvantaged." Everything that our founding Fathers (and Mothers) recognized as necessary for a free and strong Republic, has been whittled away by self-seeking opportunists. We are at the " fork in the road ." Those who would choose the "Spirit of God" give thanks for the opportunity to seek the love of God, and to love their neighbor. Those who seek the spirit of "self " seek not God, but seek rather that which belongs to their neighbor. Responsible citizenship is the only hope for a "free" people. And it begins with the Family Unit, at home, in prayer, with charity (love) towards others. I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the humble.
